Hazelwood Breaks Through for Maiden Race Win

1002767_538348702868679_198163458_nSOUTH Australian Todd Hazelwood has had a great start to round four in the Australian Formula 3 championship, qualifying first position and winning race one at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Hazelwood continued his good form from practice yesterday, gaining a one-tenth gap on his teammate in qualifying to grab his first ever pole position in the Forpark National class.

The Fujitsu driver then had a good start in race one, gaining a jump on the series leader to take his maiden win in the Formula 3 category.

Hazelwood then had a race later on in the day, holding third position for the 9-lap race.

“It’s been an incredible day for myself, I achieved a lot more than I had expected,” said Hazelwood.

“It’s a great credit to my team, family and supporters to make this happen, I would have not done it without them.

“It’s difficult to get a good start here without rolling as the starting grid is on the hill. Hopefully tomorrow we can get it nailed and produce great results in race three tomorrow.”

Tomorrow’s racing includes one 14-lap race for the final race of the round.

“It’s going to be a long race so it is going to come down to who can manage their tyres the best.”

“The top three is very close, it is going to be a very spectacular 14-lap race tomorrow.”

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN Todd Hazelwood has had a great start to his rookie season in the Formula 3 Australian Driver’s Championship, and is looking to continue that form for the fourth round of the series held at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Hazelwood is yet to race at the circuit, but has tasted success in the state of New South Wales, becoming state champion a few years ago in his sprint karting career.

The Fujitsu Racing driver is currently second in the Forpark National Formula 3 Championship, and is looking forward to tasting more success and to get on the top step of the podium.

“After showing good pace at Darwin having never raced at Hidden Valley before, hopefully we can continue our strong form facing a new track again,” Hazelwood stated.

“The main goal for this round is to continue to collect strong championship points and remain consistent throughout the whole weekend.

“I’d love to have a win, but we have to be realistic and see how the racing goes.”

The teenager is looking forward to the great challenge to learn the grips of the circuit, as he believes it will be an exciting track in a Formula 3 race car.

“I can’t wait to test my ability on a great track, as the fast corners and fast braking is very demanding in a Formula 3.”

Todd Hazelwood will first hit the Sydney circuit on Friday (12 July) for practice.

Hazelwood Steers Clear for Podium Finish

FUJITSU Racing’s Todd Hazelwood has stayed out of trouble in today’s eventful race one to finish in second place for the Forpark National Formula 3 series for the third round of the Australian Formula 3 Drivers Championship.

This success continued from Hazelwood’s fine form in qualifying, only just being pipped for pole position to start second on the grid.

Hazelwood decided to play a smart race, staying out of trouble in an eventful race one which included three safety cars and was shortened by one lap, but full race points were rewarded.

“Race one was very eventful, I thought it was best to keep the car straight,” Hazelwood said.

“My results today proved that being smart and keeping out of trouble was the best option for myself.

“Hopefully tomorrow we can have a race under green conditions.”

The South Australian believes he still has the pace to go one better tomorrow.

“I believe the Fujitsu Racing Dallara prepared by R-Tek Motorsport is on fire this weekend, and hopefully we can show that in races two and three tomorrow.”

Todd Hazelwood will hit the Hidden Valley circuit tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM for race two and 12:20 PM for the prestigious City of Darwin Cup race.

TODD Hazelwood has finally showed the pace he’s had all year and was quickest in today’s first practice, setting the pace for the Forpark National Formula 3 category.

This is the 17-year-old’s first time at the Hidden Valley circuit, with Hazelwood looking forward for what is to come in this weekend’s racing for the third round of the Australian Formula 3 championship.

“It’s good to finally show everyone that we are fast enough to win,” Hazelwood said.

“It will be super close this weekend in the Forpark National class, as neither of us drivers have raced at the Hidden Valley circuit.

“Hopefully we can continue our good form in qualifying and in the first race tomorrow.”

The South Australian has also picked up some local sponsors and supporters for this weekend’s event.

“Without the local support from Bosch Car Service and Hydrokleen, this weekend would not be possible,” Hazelwood stated.

“Hopefully we can re-pay them with some good results.”

The Formula 3 cars were also fastest category today to hit the Darwin circuit, setting the pace for the Australian V8 Supercars who are also racing at the Skycity Triple Crown event.

Todd Hazelwood will hit the Hidden Valley circuit tomorrow morning at 9:10 AM for qualifying and at 12:25 PM for the first race.
